The Naked House installation presents a new interpretation of domestic space by using wire gestural lines to re-present objects and boundaries. The installation removes hierarchical and linear structures, encouraging the viewer to imagine a more fluid and genderless space. The work also critiques the binary nature of domestic space-making, inherited from colonial thinking. The traditional masculine-feminine division of space creates an environment that unconsciously reinforces gender roles and undermines women’s independence. The house’s interior design is based on anthropometric standards designed for men, forcing women to conform to a “controlled” environment that limits their psychological and physical needs. The Naked House invites viewers to reconsider the way they perceive domestic spaces and gender roles, encouraging them to embrace more imaginative and poetic ways of thinking about space.
