Sound performance in site specific installation
wire, headset and various medium
2019
Memories are complex and often difficult to fully accept or deny. They can be manipulated, denied, or dramatized as we try to make sense of them in the present. My artwork creates a two-way experience where viewers rely on their own memories to complete the works. By using wire to create the volume and silhouette of familiar objects, a new space is created between visibility and invisibility, evoking the uncanny aspect of memory. The performance uses sound to trigger the audience’s memories and guide them through the installation, recreating the experience of childhood memories. The performance also choreographs the audience’s movements within the installation using sound and object clues. The installation requires the audience to walk with a booklet and headset to hear the composition of instructions and sound effects. This experience is especially aimed at the 90’s generation to simulate the re-enactment of childhood memories.
